Clear Creek ISD’s 2020 varsity football season kicks off next week, Thursday, September 24, 2020, when Clear Lake High School takes on Pasadena High School at CCISD Challenger Columbia Stadium. Although the football season may look a little different in 2020 due to COVID-19, the season promises to bring back athletics, fine arts, fans and excitement under the Friday night lights.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and University Interscholastic League (UIL) established safety and social distancing guidelines for public schools to follow for the season. To effectively implement these guidelines, CCISD will reduce stadium capacity for the 2020 season; limit the sale of tickets to online purchase only; and offer the addition of a livestream viewing option to offset the reduced stadium capacity and protect the medically fragile.

2020 Varsity Football Schedule

In years past, CCISD home varsity football games were split between the two District stadiums, Veterans Memorial Stadium and Challenger Columbia Stadium. As Challenger Columbia Stadium has the higher seating capacity, CCISD made the decision to host all regular season home games (19) at Challenger Columbia Stadium in 2020. When applying the reduced capacity calculation, 1,340 seats are available on each side, with 152 of those seats reserved for band and dance students.

Online Tickets

To maintain and closely manage stadium capacity, all CCISD tickets will only be sold online and in advance of game day for the 2020 football season. Tickets are $8.00. (CCISD Staff, click here for ticket information.) No paper tickets will be sold in advance or at the stadium ticket booth.

CCISD will follow the online ticket purchase schedule below on a weekly basis:

Mondays at 9:00 a.m.: Online ticket purchase link will be available to CCISD parents of all student participants which include varsity football players, marching band, varsity cheerleaders, dance team, athletic trainers, C3Studios video crew and JROTC. Parents may purchase up to four tickets.

Tuesdays at 6:00 a.m.: Link will be available to students, staff and the general public to purchase remaining tickets. There will be a limit of four tickets per purchase.

CCISD Gold Card holders (individuals over 60 years of age who reside in the District and have applied for and been issued a Gold Card) may contact the Office of Communications at 281.284.0020 to request an online ticket on the Tuesday before the game. Please note there is limited availability due to the reduced stadium capacity.

Livestream Viewing Option

CCISD is pleased to provide a livestreaming option of every varsity home football game played in Challenger Columbia Stadium this season. Fans from near and far will have the opportunity to watch the same on field action as the fans in the stands, thanks to the talents of the C3Studios video crew. C3Studios is the video board crew at Challenger Columbia Stadium made up of CCISD Audio/Video students who create, direct, produce and bring the game day experience to CCISD fans.

In June 2020, UIL announced that schools would be allowed to broadcast Friday night football during the 2020 season. In the past, rules for UIL football games prohibited live broadcasts of games on a Friday night.

Virtual fans can visit www.ccisd.net/GameOn to watch the big game – live – and from their device, anywhere.

Safety Protocols

When entering Challenger Columbia Stadium this season, fans can expect that the District’s safety protocols align with the guidelines in place by the Center for Disease Control, TEA and UIL.

To protect against the spread of COVID-19, CCISD instituted the following measures for the public:

Self-Screening: All attendees are asked to self-screen prior to arrival at the stadium. The CCISD Self-Health Assessment can be found at www.ccisd.net/covid19.

Face Coverings: Guests will be required to bring their face coverings and wear when social distancing of at least 6 feet is not possible.

Seating: The bleachers will be clearly marked to identify areas where seating is permitted. Green markings identify open areas and the red markings signify closed seating areas. Guests are encouraged to only sit with members of the same household or continue to wear a face mask at all times.

Exiting the Stadium: To promote social distancing as fans exit the stadium, guests and students will be dismissed in a staggered fashion and will refer to the exit instructions as announced over the PA system and on the video board.

Students, fans and stadium workers are also encouraged to use hand sanitizing stations located around the stadium and wash their hands when in the restroom.

Lastly, the medically fragile or aging population who are most at risk of contracting COVID-19 are asked to please stay home and enjoy the game via the livestream.
