Principal Kathy Gouger led the celebration which included entertainment provided by the Brookwood Choir and Brookwood Spirit Squad.

Distinguished guest speakers included former Clear Creek ISD Superintendent, Dr. Ron McLeod, who shared stories of Brookwood Elementary’s beginnings in 1992. Gouger was joined by two former principals, Laura Keith and Ann Arrington, as they described cherished Brookwood Bear traditions and the passion and dedication for the school shared by students and the community.

During the ceremony, items for a time capsule were revealed which included a Houston Astros World Championship Pennant, a 25th Anniversary Brookwood shirt, and articles representing unforgettable events including the 2017 solar eclipse, Hurricane Harvey, the 2018 ice days and more. The capsule will be reopened on the school’s 50th anniversary in 2043. Audience, students and staff waited expectantly to see the sculpture the school purchased to mark the silver anniversary. Brookwood students held a coin war, which was “coined” the Quarters for a Quarter Century Celebration, to raise the funds to purchase the sculpture. Gouger and a member of the Student Council revealed the sculpture – two children sitting together on a bench reading with a teddy bear – that would be placed in the atrium in the main hallway of the school.  The ceremony concluded with the school song performed by the Brookwood Choir. Guests were then invited to visit the library to view the memorabilia and to enjoy the school carnival afterward.

Since opening its doors in 1992, Brookwood Elementary has exemplified its mission, which is to develop well-rounded individuals ultimately to enable students to reach their full potential. “The workforce industry and local businesses tell us that they are looking to hire individuals who are not only intelligent and skilled in certain areas, but also individuals who can work with a team, get along well and disagree well with others, be honest, trustworthy, respectful and have empathy toward others. I am very proud that we are partnering with families at Brookwood to grow well rounded individuals,” said Gouger. “Brookwood Elementary will continue building on this legacy for years to come,” she said.
