Simonds 500th WinClear Creek High School is starting the new school year off with a big win. The high school’s volleyball head coach Scott Simonds celebrated his 500th win this week against Fulshear.

“To be honest, I was just kind of happy we beat Fulshear, which is a really good volleyball program that has been to State the last two years,” Simonds said of his first thoughts after the milestone win.

Coach Simonds has coached volleyball for 23 years and served as head coach at Clear Creek High School for the last 18 years. During his time, he’s won nine district titles and led the team to two state tournaments in 2008 and 2016.

“I’m most proud that all the wins have been at one place here at CCHS,” Simonds continued. “Number one goal this year is to win the district championship.”

CCHS principal Jamey Majewski says with the team under Coach Simonds’ leadership, you can always count on Clear Creek volleyball being in the post-season discussion.

“Over the years, Clear Creek is seen as one of the top programs in the area and state,” Majewski continues. “Coach Simonds is a tireless worker who has high expectations for himself and his athletes.”

According to CCISD athletic director, Kirby Killingsworth, less than 10 coaches within CCISD have ever celebrated 500 wins.

“The standard is extremely hard to achieve in today’s sports world,” Killingsworth continues. “I am so proud of this accomplishment for Coach Simonds and Clear Creek Volleyball. It truly says a lot about him and all the girls on the teams he has coached throughout his career.”

To celebrate the huge accomplishment, the team won the next match of the day to win the silver bracket at the Pearland tournament. But overall, Coach Simonds says some of his favorite memories are celebrating other major milestones in his former athletes’ lives.

“I love seeing them graduate from college, going to their weddings and seeing them  raise their own kids… becoming successful people, employees, wives, and moms,” Simonds said.
