New Meal Options For Intermediate

During the regular Board Meeting on Monday, July 27, 2015, Trustees of the Clear Creek Independent School District approved a recommendation to move the meal program at all intermediate schools off the Federal program. According to Director of CCISD Child Nutrition Fred Walker, “We chose to leave the Federal program because the majority of the revenue generated comes from paying students not from the Federal Government. Students were not participating at the same rate as years past due to the changes in the Federal program.”

During the 2014-2015 school year, CCISD Child Nutrition piloted a new custom breakfast and lunch program at the high schools. The number of students buying their meals at school increased 15 percent. “In most cases the food we are offering on this new program is restaurant quality,” explained Walker. “It means prices are slightly higher, but better food choices, quality and portion sizes all lead to students wanting to buy lunch or breakfast at their campus.”

Under the new meal program the cost for the “meal deal” at breakfast is $2.00.  Students will be able to select an entrée and up to two other add-on items.  At lunch the “meal deal” will consist of an entrée and up to two add-on items.  A sample menu for a week of breakfast for the 2015-2016 school year includes Scrambled Eggs, Bacon and Toast, a Breakfast Burrito, Cinnamon Roll, Pancakes and Sausage as well as Biscuits and Gravy.

Lunch will include four lines with rotating menus featuring Italian, Grill, Wings and Mexican food. A sample menu for a Monday would allow intermediate students to choose from a Meatball Sub, Corn Dog, Breaded Pork Chop, Boneless Wings with choice of sauce, Salad, or a Chili Cheese Crispito along with various sides. Elementary schools in CCISD remain on the federal meal program and due to federal pricing guidelines, lunch prices will increase by five cents at elementary campuses for the 2015-2016 school year. Click here to view school menus.
