Posted on 01/25/2017
SEF Award WinnersThe 56th annual CCISD Science & Engineering Fair exemplified the spirit of learning, creativity and innovation the Clear Creek Independent School District believes is at the core of student success.

More than 720 elementary and secondary projects were evaluated by volunteer judges from all across the community. Top honors were awarded in grades 4 through 12 during the awards ceremony on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 in the Bayside Commons at the Education Village in League City. In all, 366 students received recognition for their projects, which ranged from Novel Blood Tests to Diagnose Preeclampsia: Saving the Lives of Mother and Child to Dementia Detection Using Neural Networks.

There were 430 4th and 5th graders who competed at the district level science fair in the elementary category. At the intermediate and high school level, almost 300 students competed in four divisions and 20 categories.

The judges selected Grand Award winners and place winners. Now, 148 junior, ninth, and senior division winners are eligible to advance to the Science Engineering Fair of Houston on February 24-25. A group of students were also awarded a special award, The Iyar Fine Arts Forum Sound Music Through Science – Universal Peace Through Music Award, which is presented to students with fine arts related science projects. The fine arts award winners received certificates and gift cards to Barnes & Noble.

The Presenting Sponsor of the District Science & Engineering Fair is Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), a longtime supporter of the fair. The University of Houston-Clear Lake and the Hilton Houston NASA Clear Lake joined in this year as sponsors of the student reception.

The audience of more than 1,000 students and parents had the opportunity to hear from Charlie Stegemoeller, SAIC Vice President for Program Management and Science & Engineering Fair enthusiast.

Stegemoeller encouraged students to stay involved in the Science & Engineering Fair and to invite their friends to participate in the years to come.
