CCISD Teacher for Gifted and Talented Earns State Honor

League City, Texas – Rachel Templin, a teacher at League City Intermediate’s WAVE program, has been selected as the 2014 Gulf Coast Area Teacher of the Gifted. The award is given to one teacher from each of the five Texas geographic areas in recognition of their outstanding service, contribution and commitment to gifted education by the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented (TAGT).

Templin is described as a special teacher who uses her heart to reach the minds of her students. WAVE is a magnet school that offers academics, mini-courses, independent study, WAVE Basics class, and acceleration in mathematics. A WAVE Basics teacher at League City WAVE and former North Pointe Advanced Academics Specialist, Templin was honored at the regular Clear Creek ISD Board of Trustees meeting on October 20, 2014. She will also be recognized at the annual TAGT conference in Fort Worth in December.

According to TAGT, a TAGT Teacher of the Gifted demonstrates a commitment to gifted education by demonstrating an ongoing commitment to professional growth; developing a personal philosophy of education for the gifted that matches the characteristics of gifted and talented students; impacting gifted education at the local, regional and state levels; developing and implementing differentiated curriculum for gifted students; and serving needs of gifted students in both the cognitive and affective domains.
