The rain could not dampen the celebration at James F. Bay Elementary as Clear Creek ISD administrators, students, families and community friends gathered to honor the school’s 2014 National Blue Ribbon School designation on Friday, November 21, 2014.

The festivities began with an exuberant student parade through the school halls, led by the Clear Falls High School Band Drum Line. The entire school passed by a long line of cheering CCISD administrators and community dignitaries as they made their way into the school’s cafeteria for the official program.

As the school mascot, the Eagle, energized the large crowd, Principal Erin Tite welcomed Lisa Holbrook with State Representative John E. Davis’ office to the stage who presented a proclamation on behalf of Rep. Davis and State Senator Larry Taylor. Glenn Royal, mayor of the City of Seabrook, also declared it James F. Bay Elementary Day in the community and presented the school with a key to the city.

Those in attendance listened proudly as Alexus Grosjean, Paige Hessler and Eva Luna, all fifth grade students and members of the Bay Spirit Team, explained what Bay Elementary means to them.

CCISD Superintendent Dr. Greg Smith congratulated the entire Bay Elementary family for the National Blue Ribbon School recognition and explained the importance of building a supportive community. “It [Bay Elementary] thrives today because of the sense of teamwork among school, parents and the neighborhoods; there is no challenge that seems too great here,” Smith told the crowd. “I know, because I have seen it in action which makes this honor especially appropriate for Bay Elementary.”

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public elementary, middle and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or academic progress that demonstrates dramatic gains in student achievement. This year, the U.S. Department of Education only recognized 25 schools in Texas as National Blue Ribbon Schools and CCISD is home to two of them: LaVace Stewart Elementary and James F. Bay Elementary.
