School Leaders and Legislators Discuss Future of Education

League City, Texas- The Bay Area Schools Consortium will host an important education forum with state senators and state representatives on Thursday, December 18 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at Blocker Middle School, 1800 9th Avenue North in Texas City. The public is highly encouraged to attend.

The discussion will focus on educational topics such as how to minimize standardized testing and maintain high accountability standards for schools, support a full-day pre-kindergarten program in Texas, allow school districts to keep local property revenue to pay for windstorm insurance instead of sending a check to Austin, and create a pipeline of workforce ready graduates in the region through an infusion of relevant career and technical programs. “We are pleased to have our state lawmakers at the table to discuss these important issues before the 83rd legislative session begins,” said Win Weber, Clear Creek ISD school board president and member of the Bay Area Schools Consortium. “Ten local school districts have thoughtfully planned a unified message to the Texas Legislature.  Together, we will implement policies that have a constructive, positive impact on students.”

The Bay Area Schools Consortium is composed of ten school districts serving Galveston County and Harris County, representing more than 140,000 students. The Consortium consists of: Clear Creek Independent School District; Dickinson Independent School District; Friendswood Independent School District; Galveston Independent School District; Hitchcock Independent School District; La Marque Independent School District; La Porte Independent School District; Pasadena Independent School District; Santa Fe Independent School District; and Texas City Independent School District.
