It’s a Bird. It’s a Plane. It’s the Bauerschlag Bears!

The citizens of League City were safe as caped crusaders of all shapes and sizes descended upon Bauerschlag Elementary for a Super Hero Fun Run.

While the school holds a fundraiser annually, this year’s event took a heroic turn. To encourage excitement for this year’s campaign, the staff at Bauerschlag Elementary created a campus hero, “Captain Personality” portrayed by third grade teacher Christopher Zacharie. And, while no hero would be complete without a foil, two villains played by third grade teacher ShaRonn Thibodeaux and fourth grade teacher Karen Whitlow, known as the Troublesome Twosome and nicknamed T2 by the students, wreaked havoc on the campus in the days leading up to the Super Hero Fun Run. The pair toilet papered the school’s lawn, painted the windows in the halls and silly-stringed doorways.

To save their school, students were encouraged to become super heroes themselves by raising money. Each student who raised $60 or more received their very own cape to wear during the Super Hero Fun Run.

Students, teachers and parents alike ran the track and navigated obstacles courses during the Fun Run, while classes took photos in front of the many super hero signs and cityscapes painted by the Art Club from Clear Springs High School. While music rang out, Captain Personality himself led the students in  a dance as T2 dashed through the school yard chased by a campus full of little super heroes.

Bauerschlag Elementary’s PK-12 Community also got in on the fun as cheerleaders and Teacher Education and Training students from Clear Springs High School were on hand to help out. In all, $17,000 was raised to help with literacy intervention and to purchase classroom materials and supplies.
